Grammy nominations validate American Idol’s influence

Love the show or hate it, one cannot deny the star power American Idol has for its hopefuls & winners. There’s no greater evidence of that again than the recent announcement of Grammy nominations for 2011.

This year, three former American Idol contestants have been nominated for Grammys. They are:

Adam Lambert - nominated for Best Pop Male Vocal Performance for “Whataya Want From Me.” Two of his producers have also been nominated for their work on Lambert’s songs.

Fantasia - her song “Bittersweet” earned her the nomination for Best R&B Female Vocal Performance (Solo) and Best R&B Song (goes to the songwriter). Her album, Back To Me, is nominated for Best R&B Album.

Lopez, Tyler New ‘American Idol’ Judges

After months of rumor and speculation, the executives at Fox finally made up their minds to seal the deal on who will be the new judges for season 10 of American Idol. The winners (as already suspected): Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.

Lopez and Tyler are replacing show creater Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul, as well as the recently departed Kara DioGuardi and Ellen Degeneres, all of whom have left for varying reasons.

More Idol Judges Panel Rumors

As we creep closer to the supposed start of auditions, Fox has not confirmed who will fill the two open spots on the judges panel for the upcoming 10th season of American Idol.  Steven Tyler of Aerosmith addressed the rumors with a desire to be on the show.

Former American Idol winner OD’s on aspirin, sleeping pills

Fantasia Barrino, winner of American Idol Season 3, was rushed to the hospital on Monday night following an overdose of aspirin and sleeping pills.

Barrino’s manager, Brian Dickens, told USMagazine.com that her injuries “are not life threatening.”

“Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon.” Dickens said. “Fantasia is a fighter and a survivor. This is not the hardest thing Fantasia has endured. Fantasia will be stronger, smarter, and better for it. Her work has always inspired her and served as a source of strength.”

“American Idol” Fires Kara DioGuardi

Recently Ellen DeGeneres announced she would not being returning to judge the popular show, American Idol. It was just said that Kara DioGuardi has been fired from the show in order “shake-up” the cast of the popular program.

Replacing DioGuardi will be Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler. He and multitalented actress Jennifer Lopez have finalized deals to join Randy Jackson for the show’s upcoming 10th season. The trio will be the judges for the show premiering in January. Auditions are being currently held.

Simon Cowell will also be leaving the show, after being on the show for all 9 seasons. He quit to focus on a new series called The X Factor.

American Idols Live in Bristow, VA

The American Idols Live tour stopped at Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Va., a couple of days ago and I was fortunate enough to be able to attend. I was very impressed with what I saw, even though I missed the first few performers after arriving late.

I sat down just as Katie Stevens finished up “Fighter” by Christina Aguilera. One of the things I liked most about the show was that none of the songs were very obscure. In other words, everyone in the audience was able to sing along.

American Idols Live cancels concerts

The American Idols Live tour has recently felt the same squeeze as Christina Aguilera, Limp Bizkit and the Jonas Brothers–each whom canceled some or all of their tour dates.

According to Pollstar.com, concert ticket sales dropped 17 percent for the top 100 North American tours during the first half of the year compared to the same period last year.

The Final Two On American Idol

It’s that time again, this Tuesday and Wednesday nights mark the season finale for American Idol Season 9!  Facing off for the title this year are Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze.

Crystal Bowersox, 24, of Elliston, OH, admits to never having stage fright and believes that separating herself from the competition lies simply with being herself.  For her, “Success ain’t about the money, it’s about doing what you love,” taking a quote from an artist that inspires her, Melissa Etheridge. American Idol, 6 Weeks To Go

This week American Idol contestants rocked the stage with performances featuring the songs of Shania Twain.  Shania herself was there to offer support and mentorship to the final six.

Top performer of the night, Casey Jones had his best performance to date singing his version of “Don’t.”  Lee Dewyze recovered strongly after a little hesitation with his rendition of “You’re Still The One.”  Michael Lynche gave his most confident performance to date with the ballad, “It Only Hurts When I’m Breathing.”
